Cleared Transaction
"Cleared" is the general bookkeeping idea of a transaction confirmed as matching a bank or card statement, which BalanceMCP verifies at the whole-account level through reconciliation rather than flagging each transaction individually.
In short
A concept, not a status field. BalanceMCP has "unposted" and "posted" on a bank transaction, but no separate per-transaction "cleared" flag — reconciliation proves the whole account's balance matches the statement, which is the practical equivalent at the account level.
Also called: cleared, clearing
In many bookkeeping systems, "cleared" describes an individual transaction that's been confirmed against an actual bank or card statement — a step distinct from simply being recorded. It's worth being precise about how BalanceMCP handles the same underlying need, since the mechanism here is different from a per-transaction checkbox.
A bank transaction in BalanceMCP carries only two possible statuses: "unposted" (still in the inbox, uncategorized) and "posted" (categorized into a journal entry). There is no separate "cleared" flag sitting alongside those two, and no tool marks an individual transaction as confirmed against a statement one row at a time.
What BalanceMCP does instead is prove the same thing at the level of the whole account: reconciling compares the ledger's total balance for an account, as of a date, against that account's real statement balance for the same date. A reconciliation that comes back matching is the practical equivalent of every transaction in that account being "cleared" collectively — proven correct as a group, rather than checked off individually.
This distinction matters mainly for expectations: someone looking for a per-transaction "cleared" checkbox, the way some other software offers, won't find one here. The confirmation BalanceMCP offers is at the account level, through reconciliation, and it's worth treating that as the equivalent guarantee rather than assuming a missing feature.
What people get wrong
- Looking for a per-transaction "cleared" checkbox or status — BalanceMCP has only unposted and posted, with confirmation happening at the whole-account level instead.
- Assuming a reconciled account means every individual transaction in it has been separately verified — reconciliation proves the account's total balance matches, as a whole.
- Treating "posted" (categorized into the ledger) as the same thing as "cleared" (confirmed against a bank statement) — they answer different questions.
Common questions
- Can I mark an individual transaction as cleared?
- Not as a separate status — BalanceMCP tracks only unposted and posted. The equivalent confirmation happens at the account level, through reconciling the whole account against its statement.
- Does a reconciled account mean every transaction in it was individually checked?
- It means the account's total ledger balance matches the statement as of that date — a whole-account proof, not a per-transaction one.
